My buddy Atom and I have been geeking out over our Android phones lately and I had an epiphany of where I’d like to see the technology go.Up until now, mobile platforms have been very bulky, disorganized, fragmented, and other than with the onset of the iPhone, generally a disappointing experience (save for some nokia/symbian smart phones that cost more than some desktop computers.)

Let’s get down to brass tax for a moment and think about how amazing the future could be with mobile devices. Qualcomm just announced their 1.5GHz dual core processors for mobile devices which in my opinion, are going to throw the mobile computing realm into hyperdrive. Reports say these processors will be cable of decoding 1080p video, and will perform on a level beyond that of current 1.3Ghz intel mobile processors. Wow!

What are we going to do with this exciting boost in speed? I say we do away with the entire concept of computing as we currently know it and introduce a new, person-centric computing experience. Allow me to explain…

Currently, my computing lifestyle is rather fragmented. I have my work laptop, my work desktop, my desktop computer, my mobile phone, etc. I’d like to see the merging of a few of those devices. Android has come a long way in the last couple of years, and I think it has great potential to go even further.

What I foresee is a future in which rather than carrying your laptop with you, you’ll carry a mobile dock which would consist of simply a larger LCD screen, keyboard, and input device (such as a mouse). It would probably be collapsible, perhaps on some of that new fangled e-ink digital paper displays. The performance of phones in the near future will equal that of our current realm of portable laptops, so rather than go into work and have a large desktop computer or a work laptop docked at your desk, you’ll simply plug your mobile device into a dock and it would enable a docked mode, your touch screen input would go away and you would then have control with a keyboard and mouse, and be able to access all of your data from the cloud (whether it be stored locally at your workplace or literally in ‘the cloud’). When finished you pop your phone out and go on with your day.

The beauty of combining these devices is of course the always on Internet connection over your cellular provider network. Some people may scoff and say “Well James, we already have this and it’s called the iPad”. Well to some extent this is true, but I don’t know why we need to carry an iPad and a cell phone. If we were to develop a new mobile standard for docking, I think we would see a huge leap in the field of mobile computing and the efficiency found there-in.

So, I guess we’ll see. Personally I hope a year from now I don’t have a laptop, I hope I can just throw my phone into a quick dock or a panel of some sort that I could bring along with me, or plug my phone in at work and work straight off of it. My desktop will continue to stay as 3d performance will most likely never reach the point that it would need to in a mobile device, but in the mean time I can hope to enjoy the freedom of a mobile computing platform for ALL of my needs.

Hello World :)

Since Kruzen.com was created, January 10th, 2003. It has had many forms. All of which didn’t really do much of anything at all. It’d gone from personal information, to pictures hosting, to playing with random web applications. Well I say it’s high-time it becomes a blog.

I plan on using this as my place of homage to the world of technology around me, a place to talk about life and all of its happenings, as well as every other unimportant thing that piques my interest.

Please add me to your list of people to follow, and hopefully I can lead you to something interesting at some point in the future. If not, I hope at the very least you’ll enjoy reading along :)

Stay Tuned!
